It’s strange to be priced out of remembering

This is a photograph of a fountain at Panepistimio station in Athens on Monday, January 21st.
It is a donut-shaped pond with a glass pyramid at its center.
Seemingly a decision someone once made quickly, and then defended for years.

I discovered it while rushing.
I was late for something that I now can’t recall.
Its schedule is 2 hours and 30 minutes of streaming, and it doesn’t stream on rainy days.
It rests longer than it performs.
Most people could fairly argue it is rather ugly, but I enjoyed its nature.

___ Nature.

Fountain, does it dream of ponds?
I saw a photograph by Margaret Raspe earlier that day that made me think of this question.
(Andrè and Max always had a good question.
They offered questions the way some people offer cigarettes.)

It reminded me of my camera and how I don’t take pictures anymore because the film got so expensive.
Yet, on this trip, I bought a pair of shoes as they reminded me of a woman I wanted to become.
The woman I wanted to become knows how to drive.
She doesn’t wait for things to arrive.

On the third day, it rained, the water became murky, and the fountain more beautiful. It became, briefly, a weather system.
I didn’t know anything in this life other than love.

I THOUGHT I WAS A PILE OF SADNESS TODAY I AM A FOUNTAIN

I felt beautiful and young and forever.
Forever is what we call the next five minutes.
